FI/FD inner source maintenance 10-33
To extend the lifetime of the emitter:
Store the emitter under vacuum or in an atmosphere of dry nitrogen.
Changing an emitter
You must replace the emitter if it is damaged or broken. The sensitivity of the
emitter is significantly compromised when a dirty, damaged or broken emitter
is used. If you are swapping the emitter, remember to return the emitter that
is no longer required to its transportation box.
To change an FI emitter:
1. Remove the FI/FD inner source probe from the instrument.
See also: Removing the FI/FD inner source on page 9-13.
2. Use tweezers to carefully remove the emitter currently fitted onto the
FI/FD inner source probe. If the emitter is not damaged, you can return
it to its transportation box.
3. Carefully remove the FI emitter from the transportation box using a
pair of tweezers to grip one of the bead legs.
Warning: Wear protective goggles when handling the emitter. The
emitter bend is made of ceramic and can shatter if put under pressure.
Caution: The emitter is very fragile and should not be directly
touched.
