2. Ultrasonically clean the slits in a suitable solvent to remove any
remaining grease.

To refit the collimating slits:
1. Assemble the collimating slits assembly in the reverse order to which
you disassembled it.
2. Fit the collimating slits assembly into the outer source assembly.
3. Fit and tighten the screw that secures the collimating slits to the outer
source lid assembly.
4. Fit the outer source lid assembly to the instrument.

Cleaning the complete outer source
To disassemble the outer source:
1. Remove the outer source lid assembly from the instrument.

page 2-6.
2. Place the outer source lid assembly on a bench so that the front support
plate is at the top.
3. Make a diagram of where the wires, thermocouple, and gas tubing are
located.
Rationale: This diagram aids assembling the outer source.
4. Unscrew and remove the two hex-head screws that secure the front
support plate to the outer source lid.
