158 Lynx II DSA User's Manual - 7096089
Change Lynx II’s Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) Settings
Lynx II parameters associated with the UPnP discovery are the UPnP Enable, UPnP
Friendly Name, and UPnP Time-to-Live settings.
Changes for the UPnP discovery in the Lynx II must be made while communicating to the
Lynx II, either through a direct connection to your PC or while connected to the network.
Making changes through the Web Client application
1. From the navigator view select Maintenance | Network Settings | UPnP.
2. Select desired Friendly Name, increase the Time-to-Live value if needed, and slide
the Enable button to “On”. When done, accept changes by pressing the Save
button.
3. Please refer to the section below for an explanation of the UPnP Friendly Name
and UPnP Time To Live.
UPnP Friendly Name and Time-To-Live (TTL) Settings
The UPnP Friendly Name will be used by Window’s UPnP discovery to identify a
specific Lynx II on the network. The name will appear among the list of discovered
UPnP-compatible devices on the network.
The UPnP Time-to-Live (TTL) is a message counter used by the UPnP discovery
messaging to discard messages once the number of network hops has been exceeded.
The parameter may be increased to expand the UPnP visibility of a Lynx II over the
network when many hops exist between the Lynx II and UPnP server. If the network
supports UPnP discovery, the Lynx II’s UPnP discovery has been enabled, and the Lynx
II is still not visible on the network via its UPnP Friendly Name, then try increasing the
TTL value from its current setting.
Set your PC to utilize DHCP via its NIC
This setup is required when the PC and Lynx II are connected to the main network using a
CAT5 Ethernet cable, and the Lynx II has been set for DHCP operation.
Additionally, changes to the PC’s network adapter settings must be made by a user with
administrative privileges.
