Printing Materials
Objetprintersproducemodelsbyjettingthinlayersofprintingmaterials
onthebuildtray,untilthecompletemodelisformed.Twotypesofmaterial
areusedinthisprocess:
• Modelmaterial—whichmakesupthefinishedmodel
• Supportmaterial—whichfillsgapsandspacesinthemodelduring
printing,andisremovedafterprinting
Storage
MaterialsusedforprintingmodelswithObjetprintersaremadeofresins,
whicharecomposedofreactivemonomersandoligomers.Although
printingmaterialsaresuppliedinsealed,UV‐proofcontainers,caremust
betakenwhenstoringandhandlingthem.Followtheseguidelinesto
protectoperatorsandtheenvironment,andtoensure
optimumresults.
• Toensureproductstability,donotallowthesematerialstocomeinto
contactwithmetal.Plasticsmadefrommonomer‐solublesubstances
(suchaspolystyreneorpolyvinylchloride)arenotsuitableforstoring
PolyJetprintingmaterials.
• Whennotinuse,keepmaterialcontainerstightlysealedtoprevent
contamination,theeffectsofexposuretoUVradiation,andaccidental
spillage.
• Storematerialcontainersindoors,inadryareawithadequate
ventilation,between16–27degreesCelsius(60–81degreesFahrenheit).
Ifexposedtoheatorflames,containersmightburstorignite.
• Signsofprematurepolymerizationinmaterialcontainersinclude
bulging,leaking,theemissionofheat,andunusualodor.Exposureto
heatcancauseresintogelinthecontainer.
• Makesurethatmaterialcontainersarestoredinaccordancewithall
localregulationsandotherapplicablerequirements.
Shelf Life
Materialsusedforproducingmodelshavealimitedshelflife.Theexpiry
dateonthelabelisvalidwhenproperlystoredinanundamaged,
unopenedcontainer.Alwaysrotateyourstock,sothatthecontainerwith
theearliestdateisusedfirst.
Exposure to
Light
Ifprintingmaterialsarenotintheirsealedcontainers,makesuretoshield
themfromsunlightandothersourcesofUVradiation,suchasfluorescent
andmercury‐vaporlights.ExposuretoUVradiationcausesanincreasein
viscosityand,eventually,solidification.
