OPUS devices update manual
Let the update run through completely. Don’t disconnect the
power when the reboot countdown is displayed
Once the device restarted, there will be a touch screen calibration process, if the device has a
touch screen. You can read about that process here.
14.3.1.1
Updating from OS 0.x / 1.x to 2.x
Warning: All files in /opt will be deleted with this update.
You can’t update from OS 0.x to 2.x directly, please update to
1.x first
If you still have an OS 0.x on your device, please first update to a 1.x OS. You cant directly
update from OS 0.x to OS 2.x!
Due to a change in the file system the update from 1.x to 2.x will be done in two steps. In the
first step only the two files redboot_RAM.bin and zImage.service will be installed.
After that the device is restarted and the other files are installed.
The second start can take up to 3 minutes because the mass storage has to be initialized
with the new file system.
14.3.1.2
Downgrading from OS 2.x to 1.x
Warning: All files in /opt and /diag will be deleted with this
update.
Due to a change in the file system the downgrade from 2.x to 1.x has to be done in two
steps. In the first step, the updater will only install the following files from the OS 1.x update:
- redboot_RAM.bin
- zImage
- zImage.service
- rootfs.jffs2
There MUST NOT be any files from an OS 2.x on the USB stick, because then the updater
will try and install these files and ignore the 1.x update files. You can put all OS 1 files on the
stick, though.
After this downgrade has been installed, a second update can be done which includes the
boot logo and the desired application (user.tar.gz file).
14.3.2
OPUS A6 G2 / OPUS A8
The first step to update the device is to copy the update files on a USB stick. The USB
stick has to be FAT32 formatted with only one partition.
Copy the OS files and/or the files for the application that should run on the device into the root
folder of the USB stick. The USB stick may contain other data, which is okay, they will be
ignored. You can find the update files in the extracted zip file that you downloaded / got on
your USB stick.
