Tuning in FD mode 9-33
To load the FD probe with sample:
1. Remove the FI/FD inner source probe from the instrument.
See also: Removing the FI/FD inner source on page 9-13.
2. Place the FI/FD inner source probe on a flat work surface.
3. Rotate the FI/FD inner source probe shaft so that the emitter is
horizontal.
4. Use a 10-µL syringe, with a sharp end, to drip 1 µL of sample directly
onto the emitter wire.
Loading the FD emitter with sample:
5. Ensure the sample is spread over the entire length of the emitter wire.
6. When the solvent from the sample has evaporated the FD inner source
probe can be inserted into the outer source.
Caution: Do not touch the emitter wire directly with the syringe,
as doing so breaks the wire.
Caution: Do not allow the droplet to contact the legs of the
emitter, or the sample may be drawn away from the emitter wire.
