Component hardware troubleshooting 11-9
No filament current. Indicates the power supply for the
current has failed.
See also: Contacting Waters on
page 11-14.
No Filament current, Trap current maximum or Emission current zero:
Possible cause Corrective action
Particle, or general contamination in
the region of the trap, causing
leakage current between the block
and the trap.
Remove the inner source and exit
plate.
Check the cleanliness of the trap
and trap ceramic. Blow out any
particles using dry nitrogen.
See also: Cleaning the trap and
repeller on page 10-23.
High filament current, high emission current or low Trap current:
Possible cause Corrective action
Electron entrance aperture blocked,
or filament in incorrect position.
Clean the inner source.
See also: Cleaning the inner source
components on page 10-20.
Poor contact to the trap from the
spring contacts on the outer source.
Use tweezers to adjust the spring
contacts on the outer source to
improve contact.

repeller on page 10-23.
One source magnet is reversed in
polarity.
Check the source magnet are
attracting.
