4. Description of the labeler
Function and scope of the application
Scope of application
The Alpha HSM is utilized to automatically label products. Depending on the installation
position, the labeling can be carried out laterally or on the top and bottom of the product.
Depending on the type and dimensions of the product, different label formats can be used.
Versions
The modular concept allows for different configurations. The Alpha HSM is used as a right
hand (RH) or left hand (LH) version; i.e. the label comes out of the dispenser on the right
(RH) or left hand (LH) side.
There are different variants for the assembly modules, e.g. unwinders and winders, with or
without their own servo drive, rigid or mobile dispensers.
Structure and scope
The labeler mainly consists of a servomotor driven drive unit , label roll unwinder , backing
tape winder and a dispenser . The labeler control is integrated into the drive unit.
Unwinders and winders with their own drive and control unit can be mounted independent-
ly from the drive unit and dispenser.
Function
The labeler dispenses one label after the other, step by step from the backing tape.
The label liner is transported via a pair of rollers driven by a servo motor. The label roll is
thereby unwound, and pulled around a peeler plate. The labels are thereby gradually de-
tached from the carrier paper and dispensed onto the products (Wipe-On-Modus). The
remaining carrier paper is then wound up.
The label feed is usually started by a product sensor mounted on the product line. The
stop is initiated by a label sensor as soon as it detects the gap between two labels. With a
correct automatic calibration the labels always stop at the same position.
The whole labeling mode is electronically controlled and monitored. Any faults that occur
are indicated on the display and the labeler is automatically stopped if necessary. At the
same time, an electronic signal is output and displayed in connection with an optional sig-
nal lamp.
