3. Check the dog clutch, shift rod joint, and
slider. Replace if cracked or worn.
Assembling the propeller shaft
housing assembly
Do not reuse the bearing, always replace
it with a new one.
1. Install the needle bearing and oil seals.
See “Assembling the propeller shaft
housing assembly” (8-12) step 1 and
step 2.
2. Install the original shim(s) (T4) a and
thrust bearing b with the propeller shaft.
3. Install a new taper roller bearing c and
the bearing outer race d into the
propeller shaft housing.
4. After installing the taper roller bearing
and bearing outer race, check that the
propeller shaft rotates smoothly.
5. Install the thrust washer f, forward gear
g, and dog clutch h.
TIP:
Install the dog clutch h with the “F” mark a
facing toward the forward gear.
6. After installing the forward gear, check
that the propeller shaft and forward gear
rotates smoothly.
7. Install the spring i, balls j, k, l, shift
slider m, and shift rod joint n.
8. Align the hole b in the dog clutch h with
the hole c in the propeller shaft.
Propeller shaft runout limit:
0.02 mm (0.008 in)
