7 Functional Description of the Fieldbus Modules
7-3
The following statements are valid for all fieldbus modules:
The module has one State LED.
The fieldbus is electrically isolated from the AC 800F.
The module can be plugged in and removed while the AC 800F is running.
Observe the installation instructions.
The module is provided with an automatic module identification, i.e. the module
type and the hardware and firmware index are read and evaluated while the
module is starting up. The module will be linked to the AC 800F internal address
and data bus only if it has been identified properly.
The AC 800F acts as a parallel address/data bus when accessing the module.
This allows for maximum data throughput with a data bus bandwidth of up to 100
Mbytes/s.
If the fieldbus module has an own processor with firmware memory, the firmware
can be updated via the AC 800F address/data bus.
Every module can generate up to four different interrupts which will be recognized
and processed by the system with different priorities.
Data errors detected in the module memory will be reported through a parity error
interrupt.
An 8 MB address domain for memory access and an 8 MB address domain for I/O
access is dedicated to every module.
Modules for 8-bit, 16-bit or 32-bit data buses can be connected. The memory
domain and the I/O domain of the module can have different data bus
configurations.
The module will only work with proper electrical contact and a closed slide-lock.
This is ensured by two CardDetect signals applied to two connector pins at
maximum diagonal distance, and by a lock signal.
If the slide lock is unlocked with a tool to permit access to the locking screw, this
status is signaled to the AC 800F which, in turn, sets the module to a defined state
and logs it off. After this, the module is switched to high resistance towards the
AC 800F address/data bus, and disconnected from the power supply. As a result,
the module can be removed without impairing the AC 800F that is still switched
on.
