4 Cabling the AC 800F
4-89
4.3.4 Cabling CAN module FI 810F
CAN module FI 810F provides three communication channels for
the CAN bus of the Freelance 2000 system. They are applied to
the 9-pin Sub-D connector at the bottom edge of the module. The
module has a bus termination which can be activated by setting the
respective jumpers. The termination consists of one 100 ohm
resistor connected at the end of each signal line.
The CAN bus is primarily designed for indoor applications. If there
is the hazard of lightning strokes, the I/O units must be placed in a
building. A fiber-optic system bus cable should be used for links
between buildings.
How the CAN bus has to be cabled depends upon the number of
I/O units used. If the total distance between the AC 800F and the
I/O units is less than 80 m, use cable TK 811F/DSU 011. Cable
TK 817/DSU 07 should be used for covering distances of more
than 80 m.
Cable TK 831F is used to link CAN module FI 810F with a terminal
block TB 870F, where the bus can be terminated as well.
Starting from the terminal block TB 870F, the CAN bus is further
cabled using CAN cable TK 831F or TK 817F.
Link cable TK 831F is designed as a feed and return cable to/from
the terminal block TB 870F. It helps to avoid a branch cable to the
AC 800F.
This ensures that a termination will always be available at the end of the bus, even if
the termination is realized on the terminal block TB 870F.
If the AC 800F is located at the end of the bus cable and the internal termination is
used, the DSU 07 or DSU 011 cables can be connected directly. Note that the
distance relevant for selecting the appropriate cable type is not given by the individual
cable lengths. Instead, the total distance between the two ends of the CAN bus has to
be considered.
The cable TK 817F/DSU 07 has a
big cross-sectional area of 0.5 mm²
and is provided with an adapter to
the Sub-Min-D connectors.
If you plan to extend the network to
total distances of more than 80 m
at a later time, it is recommended
to use cable TK 817F/DSU 07.
