4 Cabling the AC 800F
4-21
The cabling has to be done as shown in Figure 4-11.
Fig. 4-11 10Base2 cabling with 3 nodes
Note
• Connect 10Base2 terminating resistors to both cable ends.
• Minimum spacing between two nodes 0.5 m.
• Maximum total length of the 10Base2 cable 185 m.
• Minimum bending radius 5 cm.
• Connect the 10Base2 F-connectors directly to the 10Base2 module or the
Ethernet board of the PC. Do not use branch lines.
• Connect the 10Base2 cable to ground on every AC 800F following the instructions
below.
• You should also connect the 10Base2 cable to ground on the PC or laptop. Note
that usually only industrial PCs offer this possibility.
Grounding the 10Base2 cable
Check the cable for unwanted ground shorts before connecting it to ground.
In case of insufficient grounding the RFI suppression, EMI/RFI shielding
and operational reliability of the Ethernet cannot be guaranteed.
Observe the safety regulations and standards applicable in your country.
The AC 800F has a contact ledge for putting on cable shields. It is located under the
plug-in modules. In 10Base2 cables the shield is also used as one of the signal lines.
Multiple grounding of the shield therefore ensures better elimination of high-frequency
interference.
