13 Glossary
*) Component of the Freelance 2000 System 13-13
ROM Read Only Memory
Data is already stored in a ROM during chip manufacturing. ROMs are
neither erasable nor re-programmable. They are used for applications
requiring lots of pre-programmed memory chips.
EEPROM.
ROM BIOS Read Only Memory Basic Input Output System
Basic software of a PC containing the basic input/output routines as well
as other basic functions. Stored in a mask-programmed ROM on the
CPU board of the PC central unit.
Router Network unit packing datagrams using different transmission protocols
and selecting the proper route between the source system and the target
systems. Used wherever networks of different types are linked to each
other.
Routine check test Test for checking the voltage separation of the modules during the final
quality control of manufacturing, In this test, the insulating property is
checked with a high-voltage tester.
RS232C interface Serial interface of the serial fieldbus module FI 820F of the AC 800F or of
the CPU module of the process station and of the AC 800F power supply
m
odule. The RS232C interface of the process station CPU module and of
the AC 800F power supply module is reserved for diagnosis.
Diagnostic interface
RS422 interface Serial interface on the serial fieldbus module FI 820F of the AC 800F, in
a
ccordance with EIA standard RS422. Two wire pairs are used for
RS422 transmission one for transmit and one for receive data.
RS485 cable Network cable linking subsystems with the AC 800F.
RS485 interface Serial interface of the serial fieldbus module FI 820F of the AC 800F, in
accordance with the EIA standard RS485. Used as half-duplex link with
one wire pair. Currently, the Modbus protocol is implemented on this
interface.
Run/Stop LED Bicolor (red/green) LED. Indicates if functional sequence processing is
running or has been stopped.
Remains always off (dark) on the Secondary, and temporarily (until
functional processing is started again) on the Primary. Run/Stop
switch
Run/Stop switch Stops functional sequence processing of the AC 800F when set to the
Stop position. Processing stop is indicated by the Run/Stop LED.
Ethernet communication with the operator or engineering station is still
possible, even when the AC 800F is in the Stop state. The AC 800F can
also be stopped from the engineering station, independent of the
Run/Stop switch. If, however, the Run/Stop switch is in Stop position, the
AC 800F cannot be restarted from the engineering station.
