Lesson 2 – DUT Board Design Considerations

2-6 Summary and Discussion
Let us summarize what you have learned:
• For easy replacement, active devices on the DUT board, such as opamps or
relays, should be mounted on sockets.
• Input and output signals as well as analog and digital signals should be
physically separated.
• Mixed-signal devices require two ground planes on the DUT board.
Analog ground and digital ground must be connected via an inductor.
• The safest way to transport signals between analog modules and the DUT
is via coaxial cables.
• The shields of digital signal cables must be connected to a digital ground,
and the shields of analog signal cables must be connected to an analog
ground (except DC voltage force/sense lines).
• Supply and reference voltages should be protected by lowpass filters and/
or bypass capacitors.
• Test pins on the DUT board are helpful for hooking in external
measurement instruments.
