3-1 Master/Slave Trigger Function
When performing tests that require to use multiple high speed analog
modules simultaneously, it is important to remove uncertainty between the
analog modules as much as possible.
When you use different master clock sources for digital channels and
analog modules, uncertainty occurs not only between the digital channel as
the trigger source and the related analog module, but also between analog
modules. However, for High Speed AWGs, 500M AWGs, 100MHz
Digitizers, 1GHz Digitizers, Dual High Speed Samplers, and 3GHz
Samplers, you can remove the uncertainty among analog modules by using
the Master/slave Trigger Function.
The master/slave trigger function is available among the same type of
modules. The master/slave trigger function can achieve a skew between
modules of about ±1 ns (typical) for the modules.
The master/slave trigger function enables an analog module (WGB, WGD,
WDG, WDD, SPA, or SPB) to trigger other identical kinds of modules
installed in a card cage of the testhead. For this function, all WGBs,
WGDs, WDGs, WDDs, SPAs, and SPBs installed a card cage of the
testhead must be connected with the “Master-Slave” internal connection.
This connection is a closed-loop in slot number order. The following figure
shows the “Master-Slave” internal connection in a card cage of the
testhead.
If multiple WGBs, WGDs, WDGs, WDDs, SPAs, or SPBs are installed in
any card cage of the testhead, they are connected with the “Master-Slave”
internal connection cables at the time of shipment from the factory.
