ONT Product Information Guide
7.8 EPON ONT reset
The ONT can be rebooted or reset using the HTTP, the CLI interface or the reset
button on the ONT. A reboot/reset of the ONT can be used to recover from
connection, power, software download, and other failure situations. The reboot
process will interrupt service for a short period of time, approximately one minute.
The reboot sequence consists of:
• hardware self check
• file system initialization
• PLOAM activation
• ranging of the ONT
• provisioning download from OLT
• activate POTS service
• activate VoIP service
7.9 EPON performance monitoring and troubleshooting
The EPON system provides tools for the operator to measure, monitor and
troubleshoot performance issues. The tools include:
• Performance counters
• Reports
• Alarms
Performance counters
ISAM provides on-demand counters to monitor EPON layer traffic and performance
on the OLT and the ONT sides, and the traffic on the UNI in 15-min or 1-day
intervals. These counters enable service providers to:
• set a baseline for performance
• get a high-level view of the activity at a specific point in the network
• detect problems when they occur
• diagnose the cause of problems
• plan for development and growth
Table 7-3 describes the performance counters by performance monitoring type.
Types include:
• OLTPON monitoring type
• ONTPON monitoring type
• ONTENET monitoring type
