• Control Processor
The Control Processor features an integral memory management unit that 
supports a dedicated 64 kbyte instruction cache and shares a single 32 kbyte data 
cache with the DSP. The Control Processor and DSP also include a single channel 
Data Management Application (DMA) controller with a 4 kbyte read ahead 
low-latency Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) access port. The 
processors typically run at 400 MHz. 
• Switch matrix
The Switch matrix provides an integrated data channel between the four GE 
MACs, the GPON MAC, the MoCA MAC, the DSP, the control processor, and 
the other integrated elements such as flash memory, DRAM, and the local bus 
controller.
Package B ONTs can also interact with additional hardware components to support 
functionality not provided by the SoC technology.
Single-residence Gigabit Ethernet Package B ONTs with or without 
POTS and RF video
Other single-residence Gigabit Ethernet ONTs present another variation of the 
Package B ONT. In the case of these ONTs, POTS and RF video ports may or may 
not be available in addition to Ethernet ports. These Package B ONTs transmit 
Ethernet packets to either one or four RJ-45 Ethernet ports, and, in some cases, voice 
traffic to either one or two RJ-11 POTS ports and RF video traffic to one F-type 
coaxial connector. These ONTs also feature fiber optic and power connectors.
Figure 20-3 shows the functional blocks for a Package B ONT with Gigabit Ethernet, 
POTS, and coaxial ports. For those ONTs with less than the maximum number of 
Gigabit Ethernet or POTS ports, the excess ports are blocked by a plastic cover.
