Explanations for parameters P2.20~P2.22:
P2.20~P2.22 are applied with wye-delta (or star-delta) motors where the drive will control the
switching of Y-connection/∆-connection as required. In general, the wye-start/delta-run motor will
have higher torque at low speed when Y-connected, and it has higher speed when in ∆-connection.
Three-lead motors are not capable of being controlled via wye-start and delta (star)-run. Six-lead,
9-lead, and 12-lead motors can typically be run in wye-delta. Check your motor documentation to
be sure.
P2.21 is used to enable/disable Y-connection/∆-connection switch.
When P2.21 is set to 1, the drive will select by P2.20 setting and current motor frequency to switch
motor to Y-connection or ∆-connection. At the same time, it will also affect motor parameters.
P2.22 is used to set the delay time at the start of any Y or Delta transition. Delay time affects the
following:
•
Error time between Run command given and Y-connected confirmation
•
Coast time and Error time between
∆-
connected output on and
∆-
connected confirmation on
acceleration
•
Coast time and Error time between Y-connected output on and Y-connected confirmation on
deceleration
When the drive’s output frequency reaches the P2.20 Y-connection/∆-connection switch frequency,
the drive will delay by P2.22 before multi-function output terminals are active.
The use of Y-∆ will require the use of two Digital Inputs and two Digital Outputs.
