PacketFileCapture
InPacketFileCapturemodetheAPstorescapturedpacketsintheRAMfilesystem.
Uponactivation,thepacketcaptureproceedsuntiloneofthefollowingoccurs:
•Thecapturetimereachesconfiguredduration
•Thecapturefilereachesitsmaximumsize
•Theadministratorstopsthecapture
Duringthecapture,youcanmonitorthecapture
status,elapsedcapturetime,andthecurrentcapturefilesize.
Thisinformationcanbeupdated,whilethecaptureisinprogress,byclickingRefresh.
Table49describesthefieldstoconfigurethepacketcapturestatus.
RemotePacketCapture
RemotePacketCaptureallowsyoutospecifya remoteportasthedestinationforpack etcaptures.Thisfeature
worksinconjunctionwiththeWiresharknetworkanalyzertoolforWindows.Apack etcaptureserverrunson
theAPandsendsthecapturedpacketsviaaTCPconnectiontotheWiresharktool.

WindowsPCrunningtheWiresharktoolallowsyoutodisplay,log,andanalyzecapturedtraffic.
Whentheremotecapturemodeisinuse,theAPdoesn'tstoreanycaptureddatalocallyinitsfilesystem.
YourcantraceuptofiveinterfacesontheAPatthesametime.Howe ver,you
muststartaseparateWireshark
sessionforeachinterface.YoucanconfiguretheIPportnumberusedforconnectingWiresharktotheAP.The
defaultportnumberis2002.Thesystemuses5consecutiveportnumbersstartingwiththeconfiguredportfor
thepack etcapturesessions.
Ifafirewallisinstalled
betweentheWiresharkPCandtheAP,theseportsmustbeallowe dtopassthroughthe
firewall.ThefirewallmustalsobeconfiguredtoallowtheWiresharkPCtoinitiateTCPconnectiontotheAP.
