TheUAPcanoperateintwomodes:StandaloneModeorManagedMode.InStandaloneMode,theUAPacts
asanindividualAPinthenetwork,andyoumanageitbyusingtheAdministratorWebUserInterface(UI),CLI,
orSNMP.InManagedMode,theUAPispartoftheDLink
UnifiedWiredandWirelessSystem,andyoumanage
itbyusingtheDLinkUnifiedWirelessSwitch.IfanAPisinManagedMode,theAdministratorWebUI,Telnet,
SSH,andSNMPservicesar edisabled.
OntheUAP,youcanconfiguretheIPaddressesofuptofourDLinkUnified
WirelessSwitchesthatcanmanage
it.InordertomanagetheAP,theswitchandAPmustdiscovereachother.Therearemultiplewaysforaswitch
todiscoveranAP.AddingtheIPaddressoftheswitchtotheAPwhileitisinStandaloneModeisoneway
to
enableswitchtoAPdiscovery.
TransitioningBetweenModes
Every30seconds,theDLinkUnifiedWirelessSwitchsendsakeepalivemessagetoalloftheaccesspointsit
manages.EachAPchecksforthekeepalivemessagesontheSSLTCPconnection.AslongastheAPmaintains
communicationwiththeswitchthroughthekeepalivemessages,itremainsinManaged
Mode.
IftheAPdoesnotreceiveamessagewithin45secondsofthelastkeepalivemessage,theAPassumesthe
switchhasfailedandterminatesitsTCPconnectiontotheswitch,andtheAPentersStandaloneMode.
OncetheAPtransitionstoStandaloneMode,itcontinuestoforwardtrafficwithout
anyloss.TheAPusesthe
configurationontheVAPsconfiguredinVLANForwardingmode(thestandard,nontunneledmode).
WhiletheAPisinStandaloneMode,youcanmanageitbyusingtheWebinterfaceortheCLI(throughTelnet
orSSH).
ForanyclientsthatareconnectedtotheAP
throughtunneledVAPs,theAPsendsdisassociatemessagesand
disablesthetunneledVAPs.
AslongastheManagedAPAdministrativeModeissettoEnabled,asFigure24onpage90shows,theAPstarts
discoveryprocedures.IftheAPestablishesaconnectionwithawirelessswitch,whichmayormay
notbethe
sameswitchitwasconnectedtobefore,theswitchsendstheAPitsconfigurationandtheAPsendsthewireless
switchinformationaboutallcurrentlyassociatedclients.
Aftertheco nfigurationfromtheswitchisapplied,theAPradio(s)restart.Clienttrafficisbrieflyinterrupted
untiltheradio(s)are
upandtheclientsarereassociated.
