WEPKeys YoucanspecifyuptofourWEPkeys.Ineachtextbox,enterastringofcharactersforeach
key.Thekeysyouenterdependonthekeytypeselected:
•ASCII—Includesupperandlowercasealphabeticletters,thenumericdigits,and
specialsymbolssuchas@and
#.
•Hex—Includesdigits0to9andthelettersAtoF.
UsethesamenumberofcharactersforeachkeyasspecifiedintheCharactersRequired
field.ThesearetheRC4WEPkeyssharedwiththestationsusingtheAP.
Eachclientstationmustbeconfiguredtouseone
ofthesesameWEPkeysinthesame
slotasspecifiedhereontheAP.
CharactersRequired:ThenumberofcharactersyouenterintotheWEPKeyfieldsis
determinedbytheKeylengthandKeytypeyouselect.Forexample,ifyouuse128‐bit
ASCIIkeys,youmustenter
26charactersintheWEPkey .Thenumberofcharacters
requiredupdatesautomaticallybasedonhowyousetKeyLengthandKeyType.
Authentication Theauthenticationalgorithmdefinesthemethodusedtodeterminewhetheraclient
stationisallowedtoassociatewithanAPwhenstaticWEPisthesecuritymode.
Specifytheauthenticationalgorithmyouwanttousebychoosingoneofthefollowing
options:
• OpenSystemauthenticationallowsanyclientstationtoassociatewiththeAP
whetherthatclientstationhasthecorrectWEPkeyornot.Thisalgorithmisalsoused
inplaintext,IEEE802.1X,andWPAmodes.When
theauthenticationalgorithmisset
toOpenSystem,anyclientcanassociatewiththeAP.
Note:Justbecauseaclientstationisallowedtoassociatedoesnotensureitcan
exchangetrafficwithanAP.AstationmusthavethecorrectWEPkeytobeableto
successfullyaccessanddecrypt
datafromanAP,andtotransmitreadabledatatotheAP.
• SharedKeyauthenticationrequirestheclientstationtohavethecorrectWEPkeyin
ordertoassociatewiththeAP.WhentheauthenticationalgorithmissettoShared
Key,astationwithanincorrectWEPkeywillnot
beabletoassociatewiththeAP.
• BothOpenSystemandSharedKey .Whenyouselectbothauthenticationalgorithms:
– ClientstationsconfiguredtouseWEPinsharedkeymodemusthavea validWEP
keyinordertoassociatewiththeAP.
– ClientstationsconfiguredtouseWEPasanopen
system(sharedkeymodenot
enabled)willbeabletoassociatewiththeAPeveniftheydonothavethecorrect
WEPkey.
