5.7 ELECMOSTATIC DISCHARGE (ESD)
Many of the PCBs within Data General equipment contain metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) devices which are
sensitive to and can be damaged by ESD.
Because of the danger of ESD, an ESD kit (Figure 5-11) must be used when removing and handling PCBs
(including bus repeaters). The ESD kit (Part No. 129-002200) contains the following items:

Remove the black mat from its carrying bag; remove the wrist bands and other materials from the
storage pockets of the black mat.

Spread open the black mat and place it on a flat work surface with the storage pockets facing down and
the snaps facing up.
