If the power-up tests are successfully completed and the "Auto Flag" is set to "yes", the system will
complete the bootstrap process from the device selected as the auto load device. This can be
changed using the SCP-CLI "Flags" command.
•
If the power-up tests are not successful, the system terminal will display an error code and
"POWERUP TESTING-FAILED-XX" message. To interpert this message, refer to Section 4.
2.5 SYSTEM TERMINAL MODES OF OPERATION
The ECLIPSE MV/7800 and MV/7800-C system terminal has two modes of operation: normal operation and full
console program mode.
2.5.1 Normal Operating Mode
In normal operation, the system terminal functions as a normal system operator terminal. The system user enters
the commands and control characters recognized by the operating system. During normal operation, the
operating system is either Data General AOS/VS, AOS/DVS, DG/UX, or possibly, the customer's operating
system.
:-
The commands and control characters recognized by the Data General operating systems (except the BREAK
key) as well as the panic code that is displayed when the operating system detects a fatal system error are
described in the respective user operating system manuals.
2.5.2 Console Program Mode
In console program mode, the system terminal functions as a diagnostic soft console. When SCP-CLI> prompt is
present, the user enters the commands and control characters recognized by the console program. These
commands allow the user to perform the following functions:
•
Load main memory from a boot device,
•
Reset the system,
•
Start and continue program execution,
•
Examine and modify the contents of main memory and internal registers.
2.5.3 Changing Modes
When an operating system is running, use the following procedure to change between normal operation and
console program mode:
1. To enter console program mode from normal operation, do one of the following:
•
Press the BREAK key on the system terminal. The full console software lock disables this
operation.
•
Place the LOCK switch to the OFF position. Press the CONSOLE switch on the front panel to the
RST (reset) position.
Either action interrupts macroinstruction execution and brings up console program mode.
Macroinstruction execution resumes without the System console.
