Another fault situation could be repeated trials of wrong PIN codes: The reader will not show any new pictures
but the fault will be indicated by 4 beeps and the card blocked after 10 wrong attempts.
The card can further be refused by the THOR reader, if the card already has been blocked, or the reader has
been blocked etc. The user will in this case be presented with new texts explaining the refusal of the card (see
also 4.2.6 Alarm Indication).
When a card with a valid card number (site code OK) but not programmed in the system is read, the text CARD
NO. 00016, CARD NOT PRG. will be displayed. This can be used to find the card number of a lost card where
the number has been removed from the card. Please note that only cards valid in the system (site code OK) are
displayed indicating the card number, this includes f.ex. also credit cards and other card formats.
4.2.3 Programming of PIN code.
The user will automatically be guided to enter a PIN-code the first time the card is used.
1. Enter PIN-code.
2. Verify the PIN-code.
The reader will repeat step 1 and 2 until the same code has been entered two times. When the code is accepted
then the reader is ready to accept the card in order to assure a normal door entry.
4.2.4 Changing of PIN code.
The owner of a card with a PIN-code can change his PIN-code on the reader in the following manner:
1. Enter special PIN-code 1111(11) (after reading the card).
2. Enter old PIN-code.
3. Enter new PIN-code (same number of digits).
4. Verify new PIN-code.
The reader will repeat step 3 and 4 until the same code has been entered two times. When the code is accepted
then the reader is ready to accept the card in order to assure a normal door entry.
4.2.5 Hold Up Code.
The hold up code is defined (like the Thor alarm system) as the PIN code + 1, but this function can only be used,
if it has been allowed during the programming of the personnel groups. It should be noted that the personnel
group is local, and therefore is individual from reader to reader. The use of the hold up code will trigger a
dedicated alarm output, and a message will be sent to the Thor alarm system.
4.2.6 Alarm indication.
- Access control alarms
Access alarms like Door Forced etc. will only be indicated on the reader, where it happens. All alarms will be
logged in the global log common for all readers and can be displayed or printed out by means of the
corresponding menus.
