A4 CPU Description
If the CPU board is suspect in an instrument failure, a full description of the
instrument boot process is described in Chapter 2, “Boot Up and Initialization
Troubleshooting”.
CPU Identification
Since the EXA was introduced, there have been a total of 7 CPU versions used.
Four have been standard (N9010A-PC1, N9010A-PC3, N9010A-PC5, and
N9010A-PC7) and three provided optional higher performance (N9010A-PC2,
N9010A-PC4, and N9010A-PC6). The optional CPUs can be installed as
upgrades in any vintage of EXA.
In all but the N9010A-PC1, the A5 Disk Drive is a user-removable assembly. In
the N9010A-PC1, the CPU assembly had to be opened up to remove the A5
Disk Drive.
In general, if the XSA Signal Analyzer application is running, you can identify
the installed CPU by its CPU option. Press System, Show, System and looks for
an entry “N9010A-PCx”, where “x” is a number between 1 and 7. However,
there are two instances where such an entry will not appear:

00 – Earlier software revisions were only compatible with N9010A-PC1 and will not recognize newer CPUs. The
implied CPU option is N9010A-PC1.
— Instrument Software Revision A.03.00 to A.04.20 – These software revisions
are compatible with N9010A-PC3, but will not display N9010A-PC3 in the
Show System screen. The implied CPU option is N9010A-PC3.
If the CPU is functional to the point where the Windows Desktop appears, but
the XSA Signal Analyzer application is not running, connect a mouse to the
analyzer and click Start. Right-click on My Computer and select Properties.
Look at the text following “Manufactured and Supported by:”, which will
contain the description of the CPU.
