Milestone Srl MA245-003 – ultraWAVE 3 – User Manual
20
• During program run the unit must be carefully attended, to enable timely recognition of
operator’s improper use or error. The unit must under no circumstances (e.g. at night) run
unattended.
• No metal parts must be present in the pressure vessel during operation (except components
incorporated in the original construction).
• When cooling down the ultraWAVE 3 pressure vessel (with recirculation cooling system such as
the chiller) never go under room temperature. Temperature should normally be 0 - 5 °C over
room temperature, as falling below the dew point would lead to condensation and subsequent
damages. Strong cooling in ultraWAVE 3 can damage the waveguide, magnetron, antenna etc.
Condensations can form inside the described components, which could lead to “flashovers” (high
voltage arcs, sparking) in the waveguide. Damages due to improper handling or untrained
personnel, are not covered by warranty (see also Chapter on Safety Regulations).
• When loading the ultraWAVE 3 with cooling water from an external supply there is a risk of
calcification of the cooling jacket and the lines. Therefore only distilled water (or a mix of 50%
distilled water and 50% of tap water) may be used. Likewise, no antifreeze may be used.
• For critical digestions it is recommended to position the unit in a separate, closed room, suitable
to accommodate high pressure vessels. The area should have good ventilation for easy exhaust
of toxic gases. The unit is designed in a way that the service module can be easily taken out.
Standard cable length is 5 m (maximum length with no special extension).
• Operator has to make sure that the limits set for pressure and temperature are not exceeded
during operation and then no persons are endangered.
• Do not carry out any work or activity which might endanger the safety of ultraWAVE 3.
• User is committed to always operate the ultraWAVE 3 in absolutely good conditions and to
immediately report any modifications which may endanger safety.
• In case of insufficient cleaning of the sample cavity a high voltage unloading (sparking) cannot
be excluded.
• ultraWAVE 3is exclusively intended for heating materials for chemical and analytical laboratory
applications.
• ultraWAVE 3 may not be used for the following applications:
• for heating and ventilating rooms/areas
• for sterilization
• as electro-medical appliance
• to heat food and drinks for subsequent direct consumption.
• The unit may be set or operated under pressure only with safety shield on.
• The unit could generate strong magnetic field in close proximity of the unit. Therefore persons
with pacemaker are at danger.
• No modifications may be carried out on the terminal. Program updates may be carried out only
under the supervision and with the support of Service Dept.
Pressure Parts
All pressurized parts, connectors, components and sealing must be regularly checked for leakage. When
using corrosive, toxic, inflammable, or otherwise dangerous materials/substances, always provide
sufficient ventilation and exhaust and if necessary, also any other protection and safety devices as
required.
