Observance of safety regulations
UltraWAVE 3 is a pressure vessel with microwave heating. For installation and operation of the pressure
vessel it is imperative to follow the same rules and prescriptions as listed for the installation site. Safety
rules and prevention of accidents are the most relevant in this connection. Manufacturer’s
recommendations and prescriptions relating to safe operation with UltraWAVE 3 must be strictly
considered and observed likewise.
For UltraWAVE 3 operations are in all cases valid without exception all the national and local laws and
regulations for the prevention of accidents and particularly the guidelines published by the local
professional associations, if available.
Placement and movement of the unit
To carry the unit use the grasps located in front and laterally. In case of improper transport there is
danger for personnel due to the high weight of the unit.
The unit must be installed on a suitable table (adequate to the unit weight).
Definition of personnel skills and capabilities
Personnel competencies during installation, start-up, operation, deactivation and maintenance must be
clearly defined and strictly followed, assuring a clear authority for safety. All involved persons must have
read and understood the complete manual and also „the safety regulations “.
If the unit is used for analytical chemistry, for example digestion with acids and oxidizing/explosive
chemicals (mixtures) the pre-requisite that is absolutely required is the knowledge of chemistry and of
the rules governing chemistry.
ultraWAVE 3 can be attended, operated and serviced only by authorized and properly trained personnel.
These persons must also be particularly trained on possible risks and dangers.
ultraWAVE 3 is constructed according to state-of-the-art technologies and generally recognized safety
rules. Nevertheless, there is risk of damages and injuries in case of improper use or use by untrained
personnel.
How to operate with the unit
Operate according to Milestone Applications
Based on Milestone applications all parameters and settings and equipment must be followed and used.
The applications suggested by milestone are nevertheless only guidelines and must be - if necessary-
adjusted to the respective sample and/or material. Milestone Application Laboratories are available for
any further questions.
Synthesis of liquids
The use of flammable, organic solvents is subject to the general safety regulations (e.g. pressure load
medium: inert gas such as argon, nitrogen etc.). Contact the Milestone specialist for more details.
Digestions with aggressive Chemicals e.g. acids, caustic solutions, etc.
Always follow the general precautionary measures particularly holding a low cooling temperature after
the digestion (see also application reports). This ensures an optimal life and reduction of corrosion
effects. With strong exothermal reactions (heating of liquid and gaseous phases as well as production of
gases resulting in a very strong increase of pressure) the assigned sample quantity must be adapted to
