Fire due to overheating when the required cable cross-sections of power cables is fallen
below
Power cables with excessively low cross-sections can cause them to overheat. This can
result in severe injury or death due to fire and smoke.
• Only use power cables with sufficiently large cross-sections. Take into account the
routing type, ambient temperature and cable length.
Destruction of components as a result of high leakage currents
The CUD or other PROFIBUS and/or PROFINET nodes can be destroyed if significant
leakage currents flow via the PROFIBUS or PROFINET cable.
• A functional equipotential bonding conductor with a cross-section of at least 10 mm²
must be used between components in a system of a plant that are located at a distance
from each other.
Electric shock when connecting communication cables under voltage
The device cover must be removed when connecting communication cables (e.g.
PROFIBUS, PROFINET). As a consequence, live components can be touched.
Touching live components can result in death or serious injury.
• Only connect up the communication cables when the device is in a no-voltage condition.
Danger of injury caused by foreign objects in the device
Parts (e.g.: drilling chips, end sleeves) falling into the device can cause short circuits and
damage the insulation. As a consequence, arcing, a loud bang or parts and components
flying out of the device can cause severe injury.
• Only perform installation and other work when the devices are safely isolated from the
power supply.
• Cover the ventilation slits during the installation of components in the cabinet and
remove the cover before switching on.
