7.8 Communication via EtherNet/IP (EIP)
EtherNet/IP (EIP) is a realtime Ethernet, and is mainly used in automation technology.
The EtherNet Industrial Protocol (EtherNet/IP) is an open standard for industrial networks. It
is used to transmit cyclic I/O data and acyclic parameter data. EtherNet/IP was developed by
Rockwell Automation and the Open Device-Net Vendor Association (ODVA
(https://www.odva.org/Technology-Standards/EtherNet-IP/Overview)), and standardized in
the series of international IEC 61158 standards. EtherNet/IP uses the basis technology of
Ethernet TCP/IP, which has been well proven in practice. Ethernet twisted-pair cables or
fiber-optic cables are used as data transmission medium.

This chapter applies to several components of the SINAMICS d

ive family. These include the
SINAMICS
DCP even though it is not a drive. Therefore, in this chapter, the terms "drive,"
"drive unit," or "drive system" always refer to the SINAMICS DCP.
7.8.1 Components to connect SINAMICS DCP with EtherNet/IP
To connect to EtherNet/IP, a Communication Board Ethernet CBE20 and a memory card are
required.
These parts are included when ordering the SINAMICS DCP with options G33 (Profinet
CBE20) and L03 (memory card).

Correct handling of the memory card is described in Chapter "Memory card functions
(Page 158)".
7.8.2 Configuration of SINAMICS DCP for EtherNet/IP
Requirements
● CBE20 Communication Board Ethernet
● MMC memory card with firmware release from 1.2

SINAMICS DCP for EtherNet/IP is configured using STARTER, or parameters are directly
entered at the BOP.
