Pattern Generator configuration menu
The pattern generator provides output of a predefined pattern up to bit rate 25 Mb/s. Choose a bit pattern manually
, you can select a
predefined pattern, or load a saved .csv-format pattern from storage (USB drive, a network drive, or TekDrive on instruments).
To open the Pattern Generator configuration menu:
1. Tap the AFG PG > PG on the Settings bar. The oscilloscope shows the Pattern Generator configuration menu. You can change the PG
settings while the output is Off.
2. Tap Continuous or Burst to add the PG badge to the Settings bar.
3. Double-tap the PG badge to open the PG menu.
Pattern Generator menu fields and controls
Field or control Description
Output Tap to toggle between Off, Continuous, or Burst.
Cycles Specify the number of cycles in the text field. Default cycle value is 1. The minimum cycle value can be
set is 1 and maximum cycles are 2000.

When Output is selected as Burst, a Burst button is displayed on the PG badge. Tap the Burst button
on the badge to generate the signal burst.
Pattern Definition Tap to toggle between Manual or File.
Amplitude Sets the amplitude of the pattern. For Continuous mode, you can set the amplitude as 2.5 V, 3.3 V, or
5 V. For Burst mode, set the amplitude as 5 V. The default amplitude value is 5 V.
Bit Rate Sets the bit rate using the keypad or multipurpose knob. The minimum bit rate is 1 b/s and maximum
bit rate is 25 Mb/s.
Bit 3, Bit 2, Bit 1, Bit 0 Sets the bit value for each bit. For Continuous mode, the available bits are High, Low, Toggle, and
Hi-Z. For Burst mode, the available bits are High, Low, and Toggle.
Available when Pattern Definition is Manual.
Pattern File Shows the loaded pattern file path and name. Tap to select a pattern file from the PG memory
drop-down list. The list displays the last 20 patterns files that have been loaded using the Load button.
Load Tap to open the Directory configuration menu. Find and select a pattern file to load into the PG
memory. You can navigate to TekDrive to load saved pattern files.
Available when Pattern Definition is File.
