Installing a 10BaseFL network (fiber-optic cable) (4.2.7)
Are all AUI cables – if used – grounded properly?
Are all slide-locks of the AUI cables – if used – locked properly?
Are the plug-in modules fastened with screws in the network concentrator?
Is the transmission power of the 10BaseFL module set properly, depending on
the fiber length?
Were the jumpers on all modules to be plugged in the network concentrator set
properly and in accordance with the operating instructions?
When using spliced cables: were all spliced fiber-optic cables submitted to an
acceptance measurement?
When using steel-reinforced cables for outdoor links: is the steel reinforcement
grounded sufficiently?
For redundant 10BaseFL links: were the 10BaseFL modules configured for
operation in redundancy mode by setting the respective jumpers?
Does the system work properly in redundancy mode? Has this been tested by
disconnecting each of the two links?
Did you calculate the max. permissible network length?
Did you check if your network exceeds the max. permissible length?
Did you observe the max. permissible fiber length between two 10BaseFL
modules NCO 01?
Did you observe the max. permissible fiber length between a 10BaseFL
transceiver NTO 02 and a 10BaseFL module NCO 01?
Did you read and observe the operating instructions / manuals delivered with
your 10BaseFL components?

Did you select the appropriate transmission technology (RS485/FO cable)?
With RS485, only:
Did you observe the max. number of nodes (transmitters/receivers/repeaters)?
Is the appropriate Profibus connector used?
Is the appropriate Profibus cable used (characteristic impedance, capacity)?
Does the Profibus cable have the appropriate cross-sectional area?
Was the cable connected properly to the terminal block? Was it tested?
Is the cable terminated properly at both cable ends?
Has the Profibus cable the appropriate length (max. length observed?) related to
the desired transmission rate?
