6.7.5.4. Bolted busbar connections – non-marine drives
Figure 6-24 Bolted busbar connection - non-marine drive
6.7.5.4.1 Material requirements
Use stainless steel bolts and nuts with the appropriate steel grade and property
class for the connection (recommended: A2-70 - designation according to
ISO 3506-1).
Nuts with bonded coating can be used as an alternative to uncoated stainless steel
nuts.
6.7.5.4.2 Connection type
The following connection type is recommended when connecting a cable lug to a
busbar.
– Spring washer and flat washer on each side of the busbar.
The spring washer and flat washer can be replaced by a conical spring washer
(Fig. 6-23). Other washers can be used, provided they maintain the required
contact pressure.
– Use cable lugs suitable for M12 bolts.
6.7.5.4.3 Lubrication
If stainless steel bolts and nuts are used, lubricate the thread and head contact
surface of the bolt using recommended pasts, eg, MOLYKOTE™ D paste.
If a coated nut (eg, with bonded molybdenum-disulfide [MoS
2
] coating) is used, the
connection does not need to be lubricated.
6.7.5.4.4 Tightening torque
ABB recommends a tightening torque of 40 Nm for M12 bolts. For other sizes,
follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.
1) Spring washer
2) Flat washer
3) Busbar
4) Cable lug
