Complex soluons such as blood deviate slightly from Nernsan behavior due to interfering ions and
matrix eects that result in juncon potenals. By including selecvity coecients in the Nernst
equaon (Nikolsky equaon), these eects can be minimized. By characterizing the reference electrode
in dierent soluons, eects of matrix on the reference juncon potenal can also be minimized.
