Best Pracces
For ease of use, Abbo Point of Care recommends these guidelines when using the Manage and
Assemble Proles Workspace.
Prole and Category Naming - Name the Prole with the area where the iSTAT Alinity instrument
will be used, for example: NICU, Emergency Department, Respiratory Care.
Name Categories by specifying their use for all areas or for specic areas, such as: Hospital-wide
General Sengs, ICU Operator Sengs, NICU Analyte Sengs, Emergency Department Quality
Sengs.
Print the APOC Prole or all APOC Categories individually - prior to creang categories and proles.
Aer prinng, review and idenfy the desired changes to each Category by marking the changes on
the printout. Use the printout when creang the categories and assembling the prole.
Print the Laboratory Reference and Acon (Crical) ranges - including units of measure for each
analyte that will be used on the i-STAT Alinity. This can minimize the me needed to build the Analyte
Sengs Unit and Range feature.
Enable Age and Gender in Paent Sengs - if the Analyte Sengs Ranges are created with Age and
Gender applied. If eGFR is being used, this feature is required.
If Liquid QC and/or Cal Ver Schedules are used - A list of the site's areas and the cartridges used in
each area can be helpful when creang the Quality Sengs Category.
Contact the IT department or paent registraon - If using barcoded paent armbands or labels.
Ensure that the type of barcode on the armband or label is enabled in the Paent Sengs Category.
Contact Human Resources or Employee Services - If using barcoded employee badges. Ensure that
the type of barcode on the badge is enabled in the Operator Sengs Category.
Contact Laboratory Informaon System administrator - If using an accession/specimen ID entry. It
will be necessary to nd out which barcode type will be scanned and to determine where the
barcoded labels will be printed. Prinng funcons in the LIS may need to be changed in order for
accession number labels to be printed on the tesng oor.
Note: Selecons made in c
ategories and proles change screen content and
sequencing. Best pracce would be to evaluate all selecons made when building the
prole by:
uploading the prole
performing tesng in the paent and control pathways
evaluang the outcome to ensure that results and behavior are as expected.
