2.5.6 Processing multiple patient samples with the identical barcode
There are several factors that influence the processing of multiple tubes from one patient
with the identical barcode on the system:
• When a tube has already been processed, the sorting process depends only on whether
pending requirements are present or not. The system can process testing requirements
which are still pending, or process any new testing requirements.
If multiple tubes are being processed by the system, then the following should be noted:
• When two tubes with identical tube types are located between the barcode reader and the
decapper, the system receives processing data from the host for both tubes. The first tube
is processed and sorted to the target rack. The second tube is sorted into the error rack.
2.5.7 Archiving the sample tubes
Because of its customizable recapper functions and a variably-assignable sorting area, the
system is very well suited for archiving primary sample tubes.
One or multiple racks can be defined in the system configuration as archive racks. They can
be generally defined (as general archive racks), specifically for tubes defined (for primary
tubes), or specifically for tests defined (ELECSYS, IMMULITE, etc.).
Typical cases when archiving on the system:
Case 1:
The samples are processed to end, and all tests are then run on the analyses. Subsequently,
the sample is put back into the cobas p 512 input sorter. It is then transported through the
system without processing, recapped if necessary and sorted into the archive rack.
Case 2:
A special 'archive' work cycle can be created which only checks to see if there are still testing
requirements present.
The tube is immediately archived, even when pending testing requirements are still open.
NOTICE
Always be sure to label full or prepared sorting racks as soon as you take them out of the sorting
area.
