2.2.10 Laser liquid level detection (Laser-LLD)
General
The Laser-LLD module is integrated into the input sorter of the cobas systems. When a tube
is sorted into the tube transport, data are collected by the sensor technology of the Laser-LLD
system. Once the insort process has been finished, the data are processed on the LLD-Laser
control unit and the detection of liquid within the tube can be performed. Afterwards the
result of the liquid level detection is transmitted to the sorting system for further processing.
The system obtains the following results:
• Location of serum or plasma or urine within the tube (detection of the lower and upper
level)
• Processing of tubes covered with up to 5 layers of label, with label thickness of 0.07 mm
From the location of the liquid (serum/plasma/urine) within the tube and the tube type
information (providing the tube dimensions), it is then possible to calculate the volume of
liquid contained in the tube.
Functional characteristics
The liquid level measuring unit Laser-LLD is integrated into the input sorter of the system.
