Field 1 is always empty in the first statement of any Custom Control equation.
In subsequent statements, Field 1 will contain one of the two Link operators:
AND which links the statement in Series with all previous statements
OR which links the statement in Parallel with all previous statements
The AND Link operator links the current statement in Series with all previous
statements in an equation (see Figure 3-6).

In Figure 3-6, IF the condition of 03-01 is Fire AND the condition of 03-02 is
Fire, then the INPUT SIDE is true. Another way to look at this equation is
shown in Figure 3-7. In order to cross from the INPUT SIDE of the equation to
the OUTPUT SIDE, both of the statements must be true.
