4. Fasten the two clips at each side of the FI/FD inner source probe.
5. Ensure that the vent valve is closed (fully clockwise).
6. Press the VAC button on the right side of the instrument.

7. Wait until the green light in the center of the pump probe switch
illuminates.
Tip: On the MassLynx Tune window, click Vacuum > Monitor to display
the vacuum levels. You should see the Backing pressure rise and then
fall into the green region as the probe insertion lock is pumped out.
8. Click , to switch the instrument into Standby.
9. Open the source isolation valve.
10. Pull out the retaining stopper.
11. Push the FI/FD inner source probe into the outer source.
12. Adjust the micrometer until the emitter is centered between the two
extraction rods.
Caution: Do not leave the FI/FD inner source probe in the
retracted position when not in use. Remove the probe from the
instrument.
Caution: Ensure that the emitter does not touch the extraction
rods or the GC-FI column. You can view the position of the
emitter through the outer source viewing port.
