Shift cable adjustment (FT9.9DMH, FT9.9DEH)
1. Check:
9 Shift cable
Damage → Replace.
Incorrect shift lever position/poor shift-
ing → Adjust.
2. Adjust:
9 Shift cable
Adjusting steps:
8 Move the shift lever (tiller handle side)
so the shift lever (engine side) is in the
neutral position.
8 Remove the locknut 1.
8 Remove the shift cable 2 from the
shift lever (engine side).
8 Set the shift lever (tiller handle side) to
the neutral position.
8 Adjust the shift cable to the proper
length with the adjusting nut 3.
8 Install the shift cable onto the shift
lever (engine side).
8 Install the locknut and fully tighten it.
8 Move the shift lever (tiller handle side)
to the forward, neutral, and reverse
positions and make sure it shifts
smoothly and correctly. Also, make
sure both shift levers are in the same
position (e.g., both in the neutral posi-
tion). If the shifting operation is
unsmooth or incorrect, repeat the
above procedure.
