Ignition timing check
NOTE:
9 Ignition timing is automatically controlled
by the CDI unit. Therefore, only checking
procedure is shown in this section.
9 Before checking the ignition timing, make
sure the engine idling speed is properly
adjusted.
1. Check:
9 Ignition timing
Incorrect firing range Check the igni-
tion system components.
Checking steps:
8 Start the engine and allow it to warm
up for several minutes.
8 Attach the engine tachometer and tim-
ing light the spark plug lead of cylin-
der #1.
Tachometer:
YU-8036-A/90890-06760
Timing light:
YU-8036-A/90890-06760
8 Aim the timing light at the flywheel
rotor assembly 1 and make sure the
stationary pointer 2 is within the fir-
ing range 3 on the flywheel rotor
assembly.
8 Increase the engine speed past 3,000
r/min and make sure the firing range
4 advances automatically.
NOTE:
If the firing range does not advance auto-
matically, check the ignition system com-
ponents.
