13 Glossary
13-8 *) Component of the Freelance 2000 System
Firmware memory 512-kByte flash EPROM, 16-bit words, programmable while installed in
the system, no additional programming voltage required, direct
programming of the AC 800F CPU board possible.
Flash EPROM Memory similar to the EEPROM. Can be erased and reprogrammed
when built in.
Flash EPROMs are used for storing the CPU board firmware.
Freelance 2000 System *
)
ABB’s compact process control system.
AC 800F, process station, engineering station, operator station
Functional earth
Functional grounding
Functional grounding AC 800F grounding for draining high-frequency interference. The terminal
for functional grounding (functional earth) is marked with the symbol
according to 417-IEC-5018-a. It is recommended to use grounding strip
RY 885F.
Grounding, safety grounding
-G-
Gateway Unit having the same functions as a router, but additionally converting
protocols and codes. Links computer systems of different types
Router
GPS Abbreviation of Global Positioning System
A satellite-supported navigation system. A standard time signal can be
received worldwide from GPS by a special receiver. A GPS clock can be
used for synchronizing the times in a process control system. For
installations in Germany it is recommended to use the DCF77 radio clock
to reduce cost.
DCF77 radio clock
Grounding The AC 800F has no safety grounding (device of protection class II). A
functional grounding drains high-frequency interference.
Grounding strip RY 885F Flat conductor for the functional grounding of the AC 800F. A woven
copper braid is used. This conductor type is capable of draining high-
frequency interference.
-H-
Hard key *
)
Module which protects software from unauthorized use. The Freelance
2000 software only works if the hard key delivered with it is connected to
the parallel interface of the PC central unit. You can also connect the
printer cable to this interface. The hard key will not affect the printer
functions.
Hardware index Describes the hardware revision level.
Hazardous voltage A voltage higher than 42.4 V (peak value) or a DC voltage that exists in a
current circuit which does not meet the requirements for circuits with
limited energy.
Hub Distributing units linking the individual hardware components of a
network to each other. A data package arriving at any of the ports is
broadcasted to all other ports to make it available to all LAN segments.
