11 Configuration
174 Operation Manual
Oven
Readiness When enabled, the GC will not become ready until the oven reaches its setpoints.
Oven Standby When enabled, the oven temperature changes to the specified Temperature
after the GC has been idle for the entered Time. A usage example would be to set the standby
temperature to a relatively high value to keep the system clean between runs (reduce
carryover) when the GC may sit idle for long periods.
Maximum temperature Sets an upper limit to the oven temperature. Used to prevent
accidental damage to columns. The range is 70 to 450 °C. See the column manufacturer’s
recommendations.
Cryo These setpoints control liquid carbon dioxide (CO
2
) or liquid nitrogen (N
2
) cooling of the
oven.
The cryogenic valve lets you operate the oven below ambient temperature. Minimum
attainable oven temperature depends on the type of valve installed.
The GC senses the presence and type of cryogenic valve and disallows setpoints if no valve is
installed. When cryogenic cooling is not needed or cryogenic coolant is not available, the
cryogenic operation should be turned off. If this is not done, proper oven temperature control
may not be possible, particularly at temperatures near ambient.
External Oven Isothermal internal oven and programmed external oven used to calculate
column flow.
Slow Cool Down Mode On reduces the oven fan speed during the cool down cycle.
Limit Ballistic Power Reduce oven power when heating at maximum rate to limit the current
drawn from the power line.
To configure the oven
1 Select Settings > Configuration > Oven.
2 Use the oven configuration window to set the Maximum Temperature, Limit Ballistic
Power, and set the Oven Standby.
NOTE
If the GC uses cryogenic cooling, it automatically configures the coolant type.
3 Select Apply. The entered changes are saved to the GC.
