data system. Normally, set to Unlocked when not using a barcode scanner.
9 Set In_Segment Length, Out_Segment Length, and Segment 2 Length to 0 to disable
composite column configuration. See “To configure a composite column” for information.
10 Select Apply. This saves the changes to the GC.
To configure a packed column
To configure a packed column:
1 Select Settings > Configuration > Columns.
2 Under Column Type, select Packed.
3 Set the Min Temp, Max Temp, and Max Program Temp for your column.
4 Set the column’s
• Manufacturer
• Date Manufactured
• Serial Number
• Part Number
• Phase Tag
• Column ID Lock. If using an optional barcode scanner, this will be set to Locked by the
data system. Normally, set to Unlocked when not using a barcode scanner.
5 Under Inlet connection, select the desired inlet from the dropdown menu. Selections
include the installed GC inlets, and installed Aux and PCM channels.
6 Under Outlet connection, select the desired outlet from the dropdown menu.
• Available choices include the installed Aux and PCM channels, front and back detectors,
and MSD.
• When a detector is selected, the outlet end of the column is controlled at 0 psig for the
FID, TCD, FPD+, NPD, and ECD or vacuum for the MSD.
• If the column exhausts into a nonstandard detector or environment (neither ambient
pressure nor complete vacuum), select Other and enter the outlet pressure.
7 Under Thermal zone, select the desired thermal zone from the dropdown menu.
8 Set In_Segment Length, Out_Segment Length, and Segment 2 Length to 0 to disable
composite column configuration. See “To configure a composite column” for information.
9 Select Apply. This saves the changes to the GC.
To configure a composite column
A composite column is a capillary column that passes through multiple heating zones. A
composite column consists of a main segment and one or more additional segments. There
may be one segment on the input side of the main segment (In Segment) and up to two
segments on its output side (Out Segment, Segment 2). Each of the four segments' lengths,
