Spurious Free Dynamic Range
Spurious free dynamic range (SFDR) is the ratio of the largest
spectral component excluding DC to the rms value of the full-scale
input signal.
Calculation of SFDR
Signal Resolution
Signal resolution is the root of the fundamental output signal
component divided by the squared half number of harmonics.
Calculation of Signal Resolution
Number of Effective Bits
The number of effective bits (Neff) is a special ADC characteristic.
N
eff describes the available resolution which is lower than the
specified number of bits would indicate.
The available resolution is influenced by:
• Differential and integral non-linearity
• Missing codes
• Noise
• Quantization error
