5.3ConguringforaProxyServer
Aproxyserverisaserverthatactsasanintermediaryforrequestsfromclientsseekingresourcesfromotherservers.
Aclientconnectstotheproxyserver,requestingsomeservice,suchasale,connection,webpage,orother
resource,availablefromadifferentserver.Theproxyserverevaluatestherequestaccordingtoitslteringrules.For
example,itmayltertrafcbyIPaddressorprotocol.Iftherequestisvalidatedbythelter,theproxyprovidesthe
resourcebyconnectingtotherelevantserverandrequestingtheserviceonbehalfoftheclient.
Itisimportantforenterprisecustomerstobeabletosetupsecurecomputingenvironmentswithintheircompanies,
andproxycongurationisanessentialpartofdoingthat.Proxycongurationactsasasecuritybarrierensuring
thattheproxyservermonitorsalltrafcbetweentheInternetandtheintranet.Thisisnormallyanintegralpartof
securityenforcementincorporaterewallswithinintranets.
