Scanner Communication Error (Back)
 Serial communication error between the CIS unit and the ADF controller
board.
This error is detected when the value scanned in the ASIC on the CIS was
differ from the expectation, or when the FROM data in CIS unit did not
scanned normally.
 The first and second consecutive occurrences of each constitute jams. The
third occurrence constitutes an SC.
 Connector or harness between ADF control board and CIS board defective
(disconnected or broken)
 CIS unit defective
 ADF controller board defective
Check if the SC occurs by turning the power OFF then ON. If the SC occurs again,
do the following steps. Check if the SC reoccurs by cycling the power after each
step.
1. Reconnect the following connectors:
 ADF controller board - CIS harness connector
2. Replace the CIS.
3. Replace the Scanner carriage -IPU harness
4. Replace the harness for control signal.
5. Replace the ADF controller board.

IPU Error (LSYNC abnormal) (Back)
When the IPU self-diagnosis test is conducted before back side scanning, the self-
diagnosis startup register in the ASIC (Macaron) checks whether output signals
(Lsync and clock) from the CIS have been input to the Macaron.
This error is detected if these signals have not been input.
 CIS and IPU (or BCU) not connected correctly or defective
 CIS unit/back side relay board defective
 IPU (or BCU) board defective (ASIC (Macaron) failure, etc.)
Check if the SC occurs by turning the power OFF then ON. If the SC occurs again,
do the following steps. Check if the SC reoccurs by cycling the power after each
step.
1. Reconnect the following connectors:
 CIS-IPU/BCU harness connector
2. Replace the CIS.
3. Replace the IPU board.
