2.2.8.1 BlueLYNX-220CX camera for tube recognition
The camera system with BlueLYNX-220CX camera for tube cap recognition is located in the
camera enclosure in the input sorter.

Camera for tube type recognition
The camera system recognizes tube types (manufacturer and dimension) by examining the
cap color and the cap geometry. The camera uses a thin rectangle (the analysis window)
within the entire image for cap recognition. The identification of the sample tube is then
carried out using this cropped section of the image. The size and position of this image
section is defined by four coordinates. The camera's operating system prepares the cap data
and transmits it to the system for comparison to the established tube-type database. The
following information is sent with the image:
• The file name, composed of three parts:
a consecutive number, the type of image and the file extension.
• Sample tube recognized as open or closed with cap.
• The geometry of the cap for closed sample tubes: the dimensions of the cap are compared
with the system's database of cap dimensions for recognition.
• Cap color for closed sample tubes: The color values (RGB) and the pixel color impression
are converted to an average color value. The cap color is compared with the system's
database of cap dimensions for recognition.
The data is then forwarded from the system on to additional modules.
