Configuring Port-Based VLAN Stacking Configuring VLAN Stacking
page 6-28 OmniSwitch 6800/6850/9000 Network Configuration Guide March 2008
When a port is configured as either a user-customer port or a user-provider port, a port-level associa-
tion is created between the port and the default SVLAN. This association uses double-tagging to add
the SVLAN ID tag to all packets ingressing on the user port. Any additional CVLAN mappings to this
same SVLAN must also use double tagging, not VLAN translation.
A network port is a VLAN Stacking port that connects to other provider bridges and carries both
customer and provider traffic. Specifying a default SVLAN is not required when configuring a port as a
VLAN Stacking network port.
Specifying the type of port is optional; user-customer-port is used by default.
The default SVLAN ID must already exist in the switch configuration.
In addition to configuring the type of VLAN Stacking port, the following commands are available for
configuring VLAN Stacking port functionality:
Note. The VLAN Stacking provider edge (PE) switch will not tunnel GVRP frames unless the GVRP
feature and/or GVRP transparent switching functionality is enabled on the PE switch. This is true even if
GVRP processing is enabled for the VLAN Stacking port.
For more information about the commands discussed in this section, see the “VLAN Stacking Commands”
chapter in the OmniSwitch CLI Reference Guide.
Configuring SVLAN-Port Associations
The vlan svlan port svlan command is used to bind (associate) VLAN Stacking ports with SVLANs.
Valid port-SVLAN bindings are as follows:
User-customer port to customer SVLANs.
User-provider port to provider SVLANs.
Network port to customer or provider SVLANs.
Note that configuring these types of associations is in addition to assigning a default SVLAN to a user-
customer or user-provider port. In addition, there are certain scenarios where binding SVLANs to a port is
Command Description Port Type
vlan svlan port vendor-tpid Defines a vendor TPID value for egress traf-
fic for the specified port. Also used to define
a TPID value that is compared to the
SVLAN tag of traffic ingressing on the port.
Network
vlan svlan port legacy-bpdu Enables or disables legacy BPDU support
for STP on the port.
Network
vlan svlan port bpdu-treatment Specifies whether to flood or drop STP and
GVRP frames ingressing on the port.
User-customer
User-provider
vlan svlan port accept-frame-type Specifies whether tagged, untagged, or both
frame types are accepted on the port.
User-customer
User-provider
vlan svlan port lookup-miss Specifies whether tagged frames that trigger
a VLAN lookup miss are dropped or tun-
neled on the default SVLAN for the port.
