13 Configuring 802.1AB
Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) is an emerging standard to provide a solution for the configura-
tion issues caused by expanding networks. LLDP supports the network management software used for
complete network management. LLDP is implemented as per the IEEE 802.1AB standard. LLDP specifi-
cally defines a standard method for Ethernet network devices to exchange information with its neighbor-
ing devices and maintain a database of the information. The exchanged information, passed as LLDPDU,
is in TLV (Type, Length, Value) format.The information available to the network management software
must be as new as possible; hence, remote device information is periodically updated.
In This Chapter
This chapter describes the basic components of 802.1AB and how to configure them through the
Command Line Interface (CLI). The CLI commands are used in the configuration examples; for more
details about the syntax of commands, see Chapter 54, “802.1AB Commands,” in the OmniSwitch CLI
