Managing the MAC Address Table
The Dell Force10 operating system (FTOS) provides the following management activities for the MAC
address table:
Clear the MAC Address Table
Set the Aging Time for Dynamic Entries
Configure a Static MAC Address
Display the MAC Address Table
Clear the MAC Address Table
To clear the MAC address table of dynamic entries, use the following command:
Set the Aging Time for Dynamic Entries
Learned MAC addresses are entered in the table as dynamic entries, which means that they are subject to
aging. For any dynamic entry, if no packet arrives on the switch with the MAC address as the source or
destination address within the timer period, the address is removed from the table. The default aging time
is 1800 seconds.
Task Command Syntax Command Mode
Clear a MAC address table of dynamic entries.
address deletes the specified entry
all deletes all dynamic entries
interface deletes all entries for the specified
interface
vlan deletes all entries for the specified VLAN
clear mac-address-table dynamic
{address | all | interface | vlan}
